Knowledge generation through self-experimentation
Objective
To characterize the knowledge derived from quantified self-type individual and group studiesDescription
To validate self-experimentation studies as an important complement to traditional clinical trials, it is necessary to have both scientifically-valid results and a social context for understanding their role and impact. As a self-experimenter, you are asked to reflect on your experience and complete a questionnaire. Genetic data is requested (optional) that has been linked to personality traits such as risk-taking, but the main focus is the questionnaire.
This project is being operated by DIYgenomics with advisors from the Philosophy Departments at Stanford University and Foothill College with the intent of submitting the results to a philosophy journal, and acknowledging self-experimenters by name or not as specified in the questionnaire.
Inclusion Criteria
Participation in a self-experimentation project in any area including health, time-management, stress-reduction, nutrition/exercise/sleep optimization, etc.Discussion

melanie Hello all, the study is now launched and in progress. Please complete the short online survey regarding your quantified self-tracking project with EITHER the Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHJ2azd2aklITC0zR2pubWx0aGp5QlE6MQ or the Traitwise survey: https://traitwise.com/?private_survey=1&tags=tw:survey:rTTG7ExqaDBfVbPd

Amy Excellent idea!
melanie welcome, thanks for joining the study! we'll let you know when the questionnaire is posted :)
Amy Have you already decided what will be on the survey? I've been trying to quantify how I spend free time and how that evolves over time. Categorically, happy to contribute ideas. Side thoght, check out wikilife.org. They are working on building a library of all the self-experiments. May even be a good distribution channel for the questionnaire.

melanie thanks for joining the study! we should be posting the questionnaire portion soon
melanie joined as a data participant.
wreinhardt is now a study organizer.
ktpickard Nicely done. Just finished the questionnaire! Took about 25 minutes.
wreinhardt Good questions, I referred several times to model studies that I wanted to emulate and how that helped me learn.
Amy Where will this information be made available? (public, I hope)
melanie thanks Amy, yes, the results will be made public periodically as people complete the online survey
melanie hi amy - we are trying to schedule a call with wikilife - let me know if you would like to join - m@melanieswan.com
